Universal Still Life Number Three

Traditional Idea of Still Life

The definition of a still life is a painting of typically insignificant and commonplace subject matter. During the middle ages they were generally used to present allegories or religious teachings. I feel like this still life is very different because it is not a portrayal of something like fruit or a vase of flowers. The piece feels like a depiction of a perfect flower that was not drawn or painted from life which is the traditional idea of a still life. Instead, it seems like the portrait presents the artist's idea of ideal beauty.
